What is ABA?ABA, technically known as Applied Behavior Analysis, is an evidence-based therapy based on the science of learning and behavior. ABA is most sought out by people with autism, but it can also be an effective therapy for people with other cognitive disorders, developmental delays, and behavioral concerns. ABA is for everyone!

What does a session look like?During each client’s session you can expect that a Carolina Cognitive team member, a BCBA or RBT, will work directly with the client providing individual service. The client’s programs that are pulled directly from their treatment plans are loaded into a session through a platform called Hi Rasmus that allows for data collection. Throughout the session, the BCBA or RBT working with the client will review and implement these programs, as well as track progress towards mastery of goals. Sessions are 1:1 which allows for positive pairing opportunities between the staff member and the client. The provider working with your child will encourage opportunities for engagement with their fellow peers that may be in the same therapy room receiving services with their own 1:1 provider, as we strive to see an increase in social interaction and communication with all of clients!

What am I required to do as a parent?Carolina Cognitive strongly believes in active family involvement in our client’s therapy. We are passionate about generalization, and having strong family involvement allows this to happen! For Caregiver Collaboration we utilize Balance, a program created by Greg Hanley, that focuses on an at-home, parent-implemented, skill-based approach for behavior change. The BCBAs at Carolina Cognitive strive to meet weekly with the parents of each client to discuss progress and coach the families on implementing goals and procedures. This consistent meeting schedule allows the families to stay up to date on progress in the clinic, and the BCBA to stay up to date on progress at home with the family.

What insurances are accepted? We currently accept Tricare, Medicaid-Healthy Connections, and TEFRA.
-
Does my child have to be diagnosed with autism to recieve services?Your child MUST have an Autism diagnosis from a Ph.D. level provider in order to receive ABA services paid by insurance. Private pay options do not require a diagnosis!
-
What does my child need to bring for the session? We ask that you send your child with a water bottle, snack that does not need to be heated up or refrigerated, utensils (if needed for the packed snack), and extra change of clothes. Additionally, if your child is in diapers/pull-ups, we ask that you provide the clinic with diapers/pull-ups and wipes. These items will be used for your child only.
